The "book" is really the play. The dialog in both are pretty much the same. Of course, in the film they show you a few things that aren't in the play, such as the scene with the young girls dancing around the fire nude, but that is short and it is referred to in the play.
Watching the film is not horrible, and reading the play is easy. It's in modern English for the most part. It was written in the 1950's. Watch and read.
By the way, the spelling is "Crucible".
