TWICE for the US Presidency, and at least Once as Governor of Texas.( He BEAT THE CRAP OUT OF ANN RICHARDS WHO WAS SUPPOSED TO BECOME A DEMOCRAT NATIONAL FIGURE)!!
It is the reason that the Dems bash him so much, they simply can not handle knowing that a "Dumb Shiz Cowboy" out did their Brilliant Choice.

You're right. Bush's victories were not because of his any supposed "merits" but mostly due to Democrats falling short (The only exception is Gore, who actually won the popular vote but lost the electoral college due to conservative judicial activism).
