What is it with all of the Americans on here that want us to lose this war? What ever happened to faith? I'm not talking about God. You don't have to pray. You can be an Athiest and have faith. How exactly are we losing this war and why are you so quick to say it? I don't care what you think about Bush or Conservatives either. War sucks, that's a fact. Our fighting men and women are the best because they volunteered for the duty. They knew what they were getting into. The majority of our fighting forces are less than 22 years of age. We've been at war going on 5 years now. That mean the majority of the people that signed up knew what they were getting into.

You can say "I support the troops but I don't support the war". But you can't support one without the other. There are a lot of Vets on here (I'm one), how do you think it makes us and active service members feel when you say "the war is lost."?

How do you think it makes the soldiers feel when you bash their President that they die for? Or their Congress that they die for?

I'll tell you how a soldier feels, they get mad, really mad, but most of all they are hurt that you have no faith in them. And every one of them will be glad to tell you that they are dying for you to have the right to say those horrible things.

Well to start YES you can support troops without supporting the "war" because those people want the troops home and safe...not dying to act as police force for Iraq.

Second this is not a war...that is a lie...the war is over and US won..this is a Military OCCUPATION of foreign soil..but the leaders don't want to use the correct language because people don't like unwarrented Occupations...as opposed to War where it is rude not to support. So calling this a war is lying, un-American, and a betrayal of the English language itself.

Now the troops are not dying for Bush and Congress...they are dying for America as a whole BECAUSE of Bush and Congress (so you saying that makes me doubt that you really have served)... I appreciate your views but there are just as many soldiers that oppose the President and the Congress, both serving and vets, and their plans for troops to be stationed there for decades. So your being angry doesn't matter...because it is not everyone who feels that way. Anyway as an AMERICAN not only is it my RIGHT but my DUTY to stand up and be vocal when the government is not working in the interest or by the will of the PEOPLE!
America is a land of democracy for EVERYONE...not just soldiers and those who have served in military......that would NOT be American.....I learned that from my grandfather who sserved in WW2 and my father+Uncles who served in Vietnam.
It was my father+uncles service in Vietnam that made him pressure me NOT to join the military because he saw 1st hand how the government was wasting the lives of it's soldiers for no good purpose and the leaders did not care at all.....and the same thing is happening now.

I oppose the President and the Congress because they have violated the Constitution, lied to the people, declared itself immune from all laws, exposed classified intelliegence personal for political reasons, been ineffective in emergencies like Katrina, suspended Habeas Corpus, and basically make America one step away from a police state.

So when I hear people defending these traitors of American ideals and laws it makes me sad and unhappy as the America of my grandfather is gone forever since the people believe now in obedience instead of freedom, conformity instead of liberty, and ignorance instead of truth.

America cannot jam freedom and/or democracy down the throats of another people...they have to want them itself....and our presence is HINDERING the process.

Freedom is not free...it comes with the cost of blood
Freedom cannot be given by another people...it can only be taken by the people who want it

for my own personal views.....one american soldier is worth MORE than any benefit we MIGHT get some day down the road from Iraq.....so I say 5 years is enough..time for us to leave and let Iraq have it's country back so they can make a nation that they want to live in

Okay, look at your question. Why do we keep using "win or lose this war?!" It is not a matter of winning. Our Armed Forces occupied Iraq to A) capture Saddam Hussein, B) gain military control, C) build a democracy. It is an occupation, opposed to a war. And yes, I do support the troops, but I do not support the war. I do not support the cause. It does not means that I am anti-U.S. This war was not necessary. It just wasn't. However, I respect the decisions of those who chose to fight.

I understand your point but I would've like to see us focus our efforts in capturing Bin Laden rather then "win" a potently fruitless war with a country that had little to do with 9/11. No one has fully explained on how winning a war in Iraq brings Bin Laden to justice and stops worldwide terrorist efforts. I don't want us to be in Iraq win or lose because I don't see the point in establishing a democracy in a part of the world full of anti-American forces that will just concentrate their efforts on ridding the area of their enemy. I don't like the idea of spending billions per year AFTER the war in just trying to "keep the peace" when we haven't shown any diplomatic resolve with the surrounding countries. So what's the point securing one country surrounded by ones we haven't established good relations with ? I never understood the thinking behind if we "win" the war will be over. If we win this just maybe be the start of something we can't control.
We are winning but what will be the award?
I want the best for our troops and our country but I don't believe this war is it.

Now, I though the troops were fighting for "our freedom", not the president. Please tell me what my freedom has to do with Iraq? Please tell me why we left Afghanistan to flare up again?

You go ahead and fight wars, the young guys that fight have a ton of testosterone-that's why the politicians adore you. It's easy, proving something to your Dad, showing your friends and it doesn't have a damn thing to do with US democracy. Now that is just sad. You come back and will be adored for a while but, as in all wars, the politicians are the only ones that win.

War sucks, really sucks. Commit ground troops and it's not a video game anymore. I wish veterans would tell the truth. Five years, at least 5 more to go. And does it matter if we said we won right now and went home? What is there to win???? Do you have any idea what you fought for?

We're not losing the war..the Iraqis are losing the war. Let's face it...there isn't a country on this planet we couldn't invade, and topple the government in less than a month if we wanted to...the problem is, we've never been good at this kind of war(occupation/anti insurgent)...no one has. Until the Iraqis get their s#*t together, and realize the opportunity they've been given, and start making real progress toward reconciliation, I don't think it matters how many troops we throw in, or how much money we spend...at some point, it needs to stop being "our" war.

We already won the war. And yes you can support the troops without supporting whatever it is we are doing. I support giving them what they need as long as they are there fighting and i pray that they do their job and return home safely. And yes it is what they volunteered for. I am sick of you people telling me I have to support this police action we are doing now to support the troops. In my opinion we are not gaining much in the effort to build a democracy and train their army. How long should that take if they really want to do it? While I am glad we are killing terrorists, all the insurgents are not terrorists in the normal definition. They are not wanting to come to America and kill us, they are left over Saddam extremists that don't want us there. As for you saying the war is lost, very few people say that, regardless of what Rush Limbaugh believes. I suggest you try talking to people instead of listening to BS on talk radio and the opinions of radicals on here. The only people I see saying the war is lost is conservatives accusing the rest of us of saying it.

It isn't a war but an invasion/occuaption. It is not a win/lose situation. We can support the men and women in the armed forces. They have been put into a situation the U.S. troops should never have to deal with. We support them in our understanding of this. We do not support the invasion/occupation. And no I don't think those who volunteered out of loyality actually understood. As all this was built on lies. The true mission is the fact that Iraq is strategically situated in the Middle East.

Nobody wants to lose the war man.

But there is a more important question.

HOW DO WE WIN THIS WAR?

Who is going to sign the unconditional surrender papers like the emperor of Japan did in WWII?

The congress did not DECLARE war, therefore it is not an official war and unconstitutional. This is fact, this is law.

I say we bring our troops home, quit meddling in the affairs in other countries, secure our borders and let Iraq worry about itself.

No one wants to lose the war. We have won it several times, now. We keep hearing that the mission is accomplished. We have calm and peace now in Bagdad. We have so much peace there that we should start bringing troops home immediately. We have turned much of the security of Iraq over to the Iraqis and are merely waiting for them to solve their political affairs but that could take decades and is really none of our business so we need to be out of there. We have won already. Let's bring our people home. Let's stop throwing money down the Iraq sewer and start spending at home. Let's start paying off the 9 trillion dollar debt. Let's work to restore our good name in the world.

Nobody wants to lose a war, but why should Americans be placed in the middle of a civil war? This is like Vietnam, why do you expect a different outcome?
