i know there are laws for how far away a patrol car can be parked from a speed limit sign to catch speeders (i.e., if the speed limit is changing from 65 to 55, they can't be parked right after the sign and catch people while they're slowing down). but i can't find any public documents with this information. does anyone know where i should look?

also, can they be parked behind a curve? what are the limitations of a radar gun when the officer is parked at the end of a sharp curve?

i'm obviously trying to fight a speeding ticket here. i want to find official documents, though, so advice on where to find this stuff would be more useful than just hear-say. thanks.

There are no laws about them hidding around a curve if that is the defense you are looking for. The law doesnt require them to be in plain sight to catch you. The resoning is you are breaking the traffic code by speeding so you are the one in the wrong The fact that they are in hidding doesnt make or force you to speed. In hiding place or not it is all up to you to speed or not.

No that being said, you could take your car to a mechanic who can test your spedometer calabration. If it is off that could get you out of a ticket. the mechanic would have to make a written statement for the court and you would also have to show you got it fixed.

Unless you are about to lose you DL for too many tickets or this will really affect your insurance then I would just pay the ticket.

I doubt whether there are actual laws that limit the use of a police radar gun. Legally speaking, they couldn't set up right behind the lower speed limit sign and charge you while you're slowing down, because your car would still be in the higher speed zone when the radar measured your speed. However, they can set up behind a curve, on a downhill slope, or anywhere else where people might be tempted to exceed the posted limit.

All laws are written down and can be accessed by the public. You can access them in any police station, but I would strongly recommend that you exercise courtesy and politeness when requesting to read them. The desk officer might even be willing to photocopy a page or two for you, if you think that the officer who gave you a ticket was not following the rules (but don't offer that reason unless asked). If you can't get such cooperation, get a lawyer.

No radar does not work at night. That is why bats only fly in the daytime! Planes cannot take off and land at night, and aircraft carriers have to shut down operations at night as well. Can't have planes flying blind! LOLOL!! Do you know what radar is? It is an echolocator. If radar didn't work at night, you probably wouldn't be able to talk at night either! The only problem with at radar at night would be with a handheld device, because one has to see what it is being aimed at to be able to send the signal in the correct direction. So don't speed at night, because you can't see the officer holding the radar gun!

Actually, if the sign says 45 you must be going 45 when you pass it because it doesn't mean to slow down now it means you must be going 45.

They can park where they want to get speeders.

If you were speeding and got caught then pay your ticket. That's the consequences of your actions. But if you really want to fight it then get a lawyer to get you off.

I was on my way to work early one morning, and a cop was sitting at the end of the bridge with a radar gun and he pulled me over for speeding... He asked me why I was speeding. I told him that I was late for work. He asked what I did for a living, and I told him that I stretch Butt Holes. He asked how do I do it... I told him that I start with 1 finger and start stretching it till I can get a hand in.. Then I get 2 hands in.. and I sometimes stretch them to about 6 feet. He said WOW.. Why would anyone want a 6 foot Butt Hole? What would they do with a 6 foot Butt Hole?? I told him that they would put them at the end of a bridge and stick a radar gun in their hand!

They can park about anywhere they want to catch speeders. They have to have certification that the gun has been calibrated correctly and it has to be done every so often. Did you question the last time the gun was calibrated?
