How long does your essay have to be? If you're talking about the standard 5 paragraph one, try writing about the reverse symbolism Shakespeare used. Othello was black, but he's the protagonist, the good guy. True, he was gullible and killed his wife who was totally innocent, but Othello was not evil, just easily fooled. On the other hand, Iago was white and he was as two faced and evil as anyone can be. Usually, in our culture, black is used as a symbol for evil and white for good; in Othello, the symbolism is just reversed. (Now, there's a thesis sentence for you.)
