I don't think it should matter how many animals you have. What should matter is if you engage in farming for profit,or as a hobby.

I live surrounded by millions of acres of farms it seems, but the only animals are probably insects and birds. Citrus groves are like that :)
So I would say you could have a farm with zero animals of the sort you are talking about .

Good question, I actually am not sure myself but I am going to guess that it has to do with how you zone the property and if you plan on making $ off the animals on your property.
