THE girlfriend of Madeleine McCann suspect Robert Murat was yesterday accused of handing over the youngster to a man two days after she disappeared.
Metodo 3, the detective agency hired by parents Gerry and Kate to find their daughter, found a witness who had seen the exchange in central Portugal on May 5.
The witness is sure the child being put into a car was Maddie.
“They believe a man and a woman are involved in Maddie’s abduction, and that there was a vehicle involved.”
Talking about four-year-old Maddie, Metodo 3 boss Francisco Marco told American channel CBS: “We are 100 per cent sure she is alive. We know the kidnapper. We know who he is and we know how he has done it.”
Mr Marco said he has handed the information to cops.
Murat, 33, was dating mum-of-one Walczuch while she was still living in her marital home with Portuguese hubby Luis Antonio.
The trio even shared the flat for six months.
The affair was blamed for the breakdown of Murat’s 11-year marriage to wife Dawn, 41.
She returned to the UK with their daughter Sofia, four, when she discovered Murat was cheating on her.
Undercover cops kept the love triangle trio under surveillance for a week before taking them for questioning on May 14.
That was the day Murat was named as a suspect, or arguido.
Walczuch and pool-cleaner Antonio, 47, were quizzed a second time on May 24, but later released without charge.
The McCanns are paying for Metodo 3 — which boasts a 100 per cent success rate — through donations by benefactors.
But Murat’s mother Jenny insists her son is totally innocent.
The 71-year-old told a Panorama special, to be screened on BBC1 tonight, that he was with her throughout the evening of May 3.
She accused pals of the McCanns — who claim they saw him that night — of lying.
The programme also reveals how Kate reacted in fury when cops told her she would escape with only two years in jail if she admitted manslaughter.
She repeatedly screamed: “No.”
In the same programme, Gerry speaks of his belief that “a predator” was watching his family in the days before Madeleine’s disappearance.
In a personal video, filmed by a family friend in August, he speaks about a “window of opportunity” taken by an abductor.
The thought made him and his wife “sick to the core”, he said.
Before Madeleine disappeared, the couple became concerned by the security at the back of the holiday apartment when “maybe the weak spots were at the front”.
In the footage, filmed in Portugal, he said: “It’s a corner flat with trees overlooking it. Somebody could be hiding there or watching out of view."
He added: “I’ve no doubt that Madeleine was targeted and that makes us sick to the core to think that someone was watching us and our daughter and they targeted her. I think the true word is a predator.
“But you just don’t think there’s any trouble and it’s certainly the furthest thing from our mind.”
Also in the film, Kate talks of the pressures posed by the campaign to find Madeleine and her regret at leaving their children alone in the apartment on the night of the disappearance.
She said: “There’s not a textbook about it, is there? Like what to do when your daughter gets abducted.
“It’s awful and horrible for anyone to have to go through and we are just doing what we think is best.”
Meanwhile, Portuguese newspaper Expresso reported today that after saying in September that she would take a lie detector test, Kate has now said that she will not do it.
McCann family spokesman Clarence Mitchell reportedly said that tests such as these hold no weight in Portuguese courts, and there is no need for the couple to take them anyway.
Reports also suggested today that detectives searching for Madeleine launched a new search of the church where Kate and Gerry prayed for their daughter's return.
Officers are said to be looking at the Our Lady of the Light Church in Praia de Luz in relation to a theory that Madeleine's body was laid there before being moved.
The new search was allegedly carried out two weeks ago "informally and with maximum discretion".
Police apparently scoured the outside of the church, including the garden which used to be an old graveyard.
Sniffer dogs raised suspicions about the area four months ago.
A source reportedly told Portuguese paper Diario De Noticias, "Police have spoken several times to the priest in Praia da Luz since Maddie disappeared."
The new probe has reportedly been prompted by claims that Madeleine was seen with the girlfriend of Robert Murat.
Kate and Gerry, both 39, attended mass near their home in Rothley, Leics, yesterday.

They say that the McCann's investigators have a witness who says they saw Murat's girlfriend handing a girl who looked like Madeleine to an unknown man.
I would copy and paste but I don't think that it would be legal under copyright laws.

sorry - does this story say that the witness went to the private investigator first (possibly to check if there is a reward?), and then the information was passed on to the police ...
is that the way the legal system works these days then ?
everything about these news stories is rubbish in my opinion - with the amount of publicity this story has generated - how on earth is it possible for a witness to come forward - what 7 months later - and for the authorities to think taht this is a credible source?

Why cant you just go and buy it?
Edit: If you are so bothered about lowering yourself to buy a newspaper, why are you reading whats inside it? Clearly you dont have a high opinion of it, so why would you hold a high opinion on the articles?
