Disability Living Allowance is not means tested, so although you cannot get Income Support, you can claim the pension age equivalent, which is Pension Credit (ensuring a minimum £125 per week) - so, if you are able to qualify for both, then it certainly helps.

Pension credit is only another form of income support, with a fancy name. Phone your local pension office and ask their advice I thought at a certain age you automatically changed to pension credit.

In uk pensioners get pension credit, they don't get income support. This happens when men are 60 and women are 65.

My Mother had a pension attendance allowence and various other bits and pieces due to her disabilities. In fact she had more money than she had ever had in the whole of her life. Sadly she did not spend because she did not want to want to waste money so that when she died we had to repay £5K The annoting part was after she died we also had to sort her house out to get it into a state in which we could sell it. All the things we wanted to get done whilst she was alive but she flatly refused to have done because at her time of life------- She would have been so much more comfortable.

No. I am male. I looked after my grandmotherr almost seven years, after having nursed my mother for 4 years with cancer, and my autistic daughter before that, and my son with his serious heart problems before that ... I got eff all. My gran got her pension, and she had her rent paid, and her council tax ... I think that society really treats old people and young people and parents etc with very little consideration. When I needed extra money for any of my family, I effing went out and worked for it.
Have you ever tried to explain to a 95 year old woman how the telephone option system works? Of course you haven't. And when you try to explain to BT/Water Companies/Electricty Companies etc the problems that very elderly people have, they just shrug their shoulders and say moronic things like 'Well, this is the age we live in ...'

Yes they can, and the best way to go about it is this. Phone your doctors receptionist and ask her for the welfare rights officer's phone number, he/she will pay you a visit and give all the help you need. They will also fill in all the forms for your claim, they are the professional ones and that is their job.
