smoker who asked for insight _
Scientifically it probably can't be proven, but anecdotally it is probably right. I don't smoke and in the office where i work many people do. The smokers there seem to catch every cold that passes by and take more sick leave than anyone else. Even when they are at work, they spend half the time coughing and spluttering and swallowing every pill they can get their hands on - headaches, aspirin whatever.

As a smoker, I agree with you. We seem to get sick more often and it lasts longer. We are addicted to a horrible habit!

When I worked, I was too busy to notice. Half the people seemed to get sick frequently, the other half didn't. There were smokers in each group, and there were nonsmokers in each group. Personally, I was a smoker and missed two weeks in 26 years--got the flu from one of my dedicated coworkers who wouldn't miss for any reason. I worked many a twenty hour day, but I'm sure the only reason I got sick and run down was because I smoked.(That's sarcasm)

You don't say where you'r from, but if it's up north, could it be because smokers are forced to stand outside in the rather harsh elements in order to satisfy their addiction. I know when I lived in NY we had to stand in the wind, rain, snow, sleet - all unprotected from the elements. Why can't there be smoking "salons" for those of us who have unwittingly succumbed to the addiction. I really don't think my smoke is any worse than, say, burnt microwaved popcorn!! By the way, I hear there's a study exposing "popcorn lung" - get ready folks - another "danger" that none of us are prepared for and where the government will have to step in and issue severe regulations.

Partially agree. When I smoked I never missed work and I very rarely take a pill of any kind, I am also not prone to headaches. I do know that many smokers have many health issues, but I fortunately was not one of them.

Live and let live. If you don't like the smoke, leave the room. I think it's all about money anyway. Healthcare uses it as an excuse to raise healthcare cost. The cost of helping people hasn't changed. The mental outlook of cost has.

Not really right, but I would say when they are at work, they spend half the time outside smoking! :D

Sounds like a load of anti-smoking horse manure to me.

It has been scientifically proven that tobacco is killing one in five Americans. http://cdc/gov/tobacco/data_statistics/Factsheets/tobacco_related_mortality.htm
