Sometimes I feel that the anonymous remove of interraction with others via a computer, rather than in person, is robbing me of my sense of humanity. Do you share this feeling to any extent? The feeling leaves me feeling empty and somehow lonely, as though I am not fully participating in and experiencing the world as I should be. Maybe I am just weird, huh? What do you think?

Perhaps the more we try to humanize the computer, the more our human condition is lost

I knew sitting in front of a computer was doing something to me, but I couldn't quite think of the correct term. But you've just nailed it for: it dehumanizes me, that's what it does. I'm no longer a fcuking human being, I'm just some bozo on the other end of a mouse.

Computers are making the world easier by making people not have to think. If you take out the thought process of a humen that makes them uncomplicated and unordinary. Which dehumanizes people.

I'd recommend the book Fahrenheit 451 for further reading on how the humen race is becoming more desensitized

The internet will only rob you of your humanity if you let it. For example some people are rude on the internet because there are no direct consequences. You don't have to be though. If your in a chat room or message board you can still reach out to people. Don't let the internet rob you of your humanity if you don't want it to. Good luck.

I think we (humans) are programmed like computers - so we have a lot in common with computers, but computers have changed Humanity

I think it is to a lot of people, especially the younger ones. My 16 year old sister doesn't use the phone anymore and waits for people to respond to her via-email or myspace messages. i had asked her why doesn't she use the phone and she said "because i don't like to plus they won't answer their phone anyway."

i noticed with kids that they only answer their cell phone and they do not answer the house phone.

Actually I feel the exact opposite! I feel like I get real answers from real people because they don't have any confrontation to deal with.

Missed you lately!

Nah, you're not weird. I agree, there are times when it is a very lonely and empty experience.
