Crime rates are higher in the United States. You don't have to condone brutal crimes or want the criminals who commit them to avoid a harsh punishment to ask whether the death penalty prevents or even reduces crime and whether it risks killing innocent people.

124 people on death rows have been released with proof that they were wrongfully convicted. DNA is available in less than 10% of all homicides and isn’t a guarantee we won’t execute innocent people.

The death penalty doesn't prevent others from committing murder. No reputable study shows the death penalty to be a deterrent. To be a deterrent a punishment must be sure and swift. The death penalty is neither. Homicide rates are higher in states and regions that have it than in states that don’t.

We have a good alternative. Life without parole is now on the books in 48 states. It means what it says. It is sure and swift and rarely appealed. Life without parole is less expensive than the death penalty.

The death penalty costs much more than life in prison, mostly because of the legal process which is supposed to prevent executions of innocent people.

The death penalty isn't reserved for the worst crimes, but for defendants with the worst lawyers. It doesn't apply to people with money. When is the last time a wealthy person was on death row, let alone executed?

The death penalty doesn't necessarily help families of murder victims. Murder victim family members across the country argue that the drawn-out death penalty process is painful for them and that life without parole is an appropriate alternative.

Problems with speeding up the process. Over 50 of the innocent people released from death row had already served over a decade. If the process is speeded up we are sure to execute an innocent person.

Not true. In America, the death penalty is currently being re-evalluated after one of that last injected with the lethal dose did not die for a very prolonged period of time, so they are fighting that it s unconstitutional.
Also, often, unless the crime is very haneous or repeated numerous times, the person does not receive the death penalty.
I personally feel it should be an eye for an eye.... Any sicko who has the audacity to murder rape or molest needs to be abolished.

he reason the death penalty was removed was because innocent people were losing their lives due to the antiquated stance of the British judicial system. Surely if we execute innocent people we are as bad as the murderers. This is not a muslim country and we should not be treated as such.

i'm american but i have to say that most of these convicts don't get the death penalty for a long time after receiving the sentence.
they sit in jail and get warm meals and get taken care of until their judgement day. even then they or someone makes a call to the govenor to ask for a "stay of execution" which puts off their sentence.

A man is known by a a company he keeps. so you are being judged. He has a lower set of thoughts so making cheap offers. If you live between good people you will have good offers other wise if you start accepting, you will have offers like hubby swapping. Just Ignore him and live with dignity. Spend time with good friends to let people make good statements about you.

We should certainly stop being so lenient on all such offenders, whether the death sentence is appropriate I don't know, but long prison sentences certainly are. .. and I don't mean just 10 to 15 years.

We tried that, it didn't work.
The PC brigade was in evidence in the 1950's and decided the evil gits should spend time at her majesty's leisure as opposed to swinging from a noose.

hell yeah! we should for rapists and murderers... doctors say peodophilia is a mental problem that people are born with so i dont know if we would get round it for that... but its still wrong, anyone would know what they where doing because they hide it!
maybe it would bring our crime rates down in the more serious cases like murder, rape etc
