I had trouble obtaining customer service. In fact, locating the appropriate person to talk to is nearly impossible. Then they act like you are poor and stupid.
I never work with them and do not even view their foreclosures that require I qualify with them. The thought of talking to those people turns my stomach.
Wells Fargo and Countrywide and 1000 times better. I LOVE Wells Fargo! They have the greatest staff and make sure that I always understand exactly what is going on. I hold 10 mortgages with them, and would have more, but that is all they allow.

I had massive problems with a car loan with them about 25 years ago and swore I'd never do business with them again. I had a mortgage sold to them in 2001 and did a re-fi in 2004, mostly due to the experience I had had back in the early 80s. I didn't have any problems with the mortgage, though I wasn't going to stick around and find out the hard way.
I've received exceptional service from both Ditech and J. B. Nutter. I'd do business with either of them in a heartbeat.

It is possible that due to the fact that your job is not currently a permanent job may cause a problem. It also may be a problem that you have only been there for six months because they may take that as instability. Does your partner have a permanent steady job? If so they may go off of his work history and you may be able to secure it that way. But be aware that because of the current state of the economy banks and mortgage lenders are making the requirements to be eligible for a loan harder and more unattainable to reach.

I have a couple of investment property mortgages with BOA, and never had a problem, but then I've had no reason to contact them either. Things go along smoothly. I wish I could say the same for Chase/JPMorgan. Those folks could screw up a one car funeral procession.
