I have, then realized after the fact that I maybe shouldn't have. I read that some panhandlers make more money than I do in a week. Also, that because of raking in the money they choose to do that instead of "work". So now, instead of giving money, I give food. They should need that more than money.

I usually give to panhandlers. I don't encounter a lot of them so I can afford to give to the ones who ask of me. I know some are phonies and frauds, but for the sake of those who are truly needy I give to all. The wisest man who ever lived (Solomon) said, "when you give to the poor it's like lending to the Lord, and He will repay you". Sounds like you can't lose on that deal!

I am a true giver. I do help where it is needed, but instead of making a habit of giving money. I had a man to ask me for some money to get something to eat. I have been burned by this before , so I said, I will get you something to eat, but I wont give you the money. He ordered and I paid. That way I know my money is going for what I intended for it to go to.

when i lived in san diego in the late 80's,
to me, it just seems like the human thing to do,
i can't walk by any type of human suffering and look away and pretend its not there.
i'm sure some have there reasons for not giving that have a good basis, too, it's just me, i can't walk away from that without giving up a little.
