my computer monitor turns black after i switch it on how can i get it to work?

when the screen turns black it says out of range in a light blue box

Its not getting a signal from the computer. Check your connections and see if the computer is on and functioning correctly. Also, check to see if you have 2 monitor outlets on your computer. Sometimes the computer will have a connection for the motherboard's on-board video card and one for the actual separate video card. If you have it on the motherboard's connection, it won't work because its by-passed by the video card's.
