if it was a white shirt, then it meant that it had a yellowish tone to it (more than likely from using bleach when washing). if it wasnt a white shirt, then she thought it looked dirty.

Possibly that it is simply just dingy looking. Especially if it was a white or light colored shirt

When your white shirt is a grey "dingy" colour - make it into rags and buy a new one shirt.

"Dingy" means not really quite clean (stains, ground in dirt, yellowing).
Dingy clothes look old and untidy.
Laundry soap with color-safe bleach will usually help.
