as i know, maiko are trained by "lady" to become singer, dancer, entertain people.

They're NOT prostitutes. Geishas dance and sing at parties for extremely rich men, when a man "buys a geisha for life" it simply means she will do private, non-sexual dances for him. How are they NOT different from prostitutes: did the documentary explicitly SAY that the men buy them for sex? No.
