Serious, how many times a week do you go without the cell, blackberry, iPhone and laptop? I "chitchat" via text, email and IM pretty much all day (whether is be work related to social), I find myself bored and antsy if I don't have someone to communicate with.

This is a basic fact of the human condition. Humans, almost entirely, need company. The fact that we want to communicate is part of the fact that we want others with us.

Its to the point that some would say that there is a phobia of silence. Some people despise being alone or being without communication so much that they react violently against not having it.

Yes, there are those who say they like to be alone. Yes, there are hermits. They are by far the exception to the rule.

Technology has made this fact more evident. We have more ways to communicate and can do it at longer distances at just about any time.

Now we can all get our fix for company and communication all the time. Like many fixes, we feel the need to get more over time.

Is this a problem? Somewhat. With all the increased means to talk we have increased means of saying something dumb. Just look at the new phenomenons of "flame wars" or the like.

All in all, I think we'll be all right, its just another fun part of being human.

And now I've gotten my fix...

Totally agree, I once left my mobile (cell) in my office over the weekend and I couldn't get to it until Monday, it was a horrible weekend because I was supposed to meeting people on the Saturday night and didn't have any numbers. I think it is kinda sad how much we rely on those things and take them for granted. So yeah I think it is a form of addiction.

I agree, it seems we get so bored without something to do, or someone to talk to. But isnt it also strange that communicating has become less personal? Instead of calling we text, email, or IM. No one has time to talk in person anymore. =(
