Sounds like your pc is hi-jacked by malware. It is very tricky to remove them and some antivirus programs are not able to detect them. I once use AVG free but it didn't detect a malware and my pc got infected. Even though I scanned and deleted all viruses after, it kept coming back.
To be safe I think you should format and reinstall your OS.
Try to do a clean reinstallation of your OS and install zonealarm free to block the malware from downloading the viruses. Also, backup or clone your disk after you reinstall your OS so you can restore the whole thing in very short time.

You have to run a high jacking program that is specified for your computer. I waited too late to do mine and once I pressed ctrl alt to open tabs in another screen, I had my pop ups disabled, it kept opening screen after screen until I was unable to use my computer.
Most of the time, the software that is responsible is a free file sharing program that has been downloaded. Because it's free, they have a lot of advertisements that carry spyware that can harm your computer. The one that keeps attacking mine is outerinfo.com. This is the second time I have had to spend almost $200 to fix my computer even with spybot and McAfee installed.
The virus scan will never find it which is why the pop up stays. I even tried to do a search in my program files but found nothing. It's a very sneaky Trojan virus.

It's hard to say if you have spyware or if you are just experiencing annoying advertising. If it only happens when you visit certain sites, then it is probably paid advertising. Most of that can be avoided with a pop-up blocker, but you will still get a few ads.
If it happens randomly, even when you are not currently browsing the internet, then it is probably spyware, or adware that was bundled with something you or someone that uses your computer downloaded. Toolbars, (not Yahoo! toolbar) screensavers, and fun but useless programs are the biggest culprits. To get rid of the spyware/adware you need to download an application such as AdAware or Spyblock Search and Destroy (or both) and run them.

Ccleaner is a great program IF you know how to use it. If not, you're better off not considering it. Antivirus programs will not get rid of this type of infestation since it is not a virus, it is spyware. Use any good, free spyware remover, or better yet, use more than one, and scan your rig and delete everything the program tells you to delete. Run all your scans in "safe mode with networking" in case you need to go on the Net while scanning to get another program. Use Ad-Aware, Advanced Spyware Remover, Xoftspy, or anything you find for free at http://majorgeeks.com. These will all get rid of your spyware nicely. Hope this has helped.

Does anybody else feel that the the phrase "People are born straight" is misleading? I mean, sexual orientation probably is predetermined, but no baby boy is born thinking, "I want to have sex with a girl". That doesn't happen until puberty. So does anybody else feel that that phrase is a little misleading? -Fix

Assuming that you have a pop up blocker installed and turned on, if those pop ups are trying to get you to buy some kind of antispyware or antivirus, the pop ups and the products they represent are bogus, and are a sign of either a smitfraud infection or a vundo (virtumonde) infection.
Superantispyware run in safe mode will remove most smitfraud and vundo variants.

How to start in safe mode: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial61.html
If Super doesn't fix the whole problem, run the vundofix and the smitfraufix.

Use AVG Free and Ad-Aware. For extra security use Spybot. I can guarantee that those pesky pop-ups will never bug you ever again.
Also, download ZoneAlarm Free Firewall for super extra protection. You can download those at http://www.download.com. You can check the reviews of each product if you aren't sure.

Try browsing with a popup blocker to help keep those annoying popups from appearing. They won't get all of the popups or the move toward AJAX "in page" popup content but it certainly reduces some of the problem.
