The alternator snapped off as we were driving down the road in my 1998 Olds Cutlass. The bracket that holds it in place actually snapped in half. After it was fixed the car started jerking while shifting through gears. The transmission was checked and is good (boot was replaced). No one can figure out what the problem could be. One technician said he thought a couple of wires might have been crossed but he wasn't sure? Does anybody have any idea what it could be? Also, since the alternator was fixed, the anti-theft system has been locking me out of the car and preventing me from starting it at times. Could these problems be related? Is there any way to disable the anti-theft system on my car? The check engine light has not gone off since the alternator was fixed either. The tech who ran the code said nothing came up as wrong.
I asked this question before and everyone said to go to Autozone, but the "local" Autozone is about 150 miles away.

Got to have basic testing info before answering. A light on means there IS a code-someone just doesn't know how to interpret what its telling them.

first if the light is on there is a code a good computer will show it
2nd you cannot disable the anti theft :( ih how i wish you could they seen to prevent owners from starting there cars more than thiefs
going to autozone will get you a code but will not tell you what the problem is

if i had to guess i wold say the misfire caused excess vibrations that broke he bracket

it could have knocked off a wire or vacume line or something
bring it to a diffrent mechanic to see if they can find it

sometimes 2 heads are better than one
