You know those times when a song just goes into your head and stays there for a really really long time and you get annoyed by it sometimes, or at other times you like the song and maybe you get used to it and eventually getting tired of it... But it still plays in your head until another song comes along and you find yourself listening inside your head all over again... The bad part would be if you don't like the song at all.

Why do songs get stuck in our heads? Is there some kind of psychological phenomenon behind this?

Even non head injured individuals do a normal amount of perserveration. This is the "over and over" type of behavior that we see in short circuited brains. When you have a song, or rhythym or ideation or concern that keeps unconsciously coming to the forefront of your regular cognition. It is annoying, but you are correct, sometimes the only way to interrupt the perseveration is to introduce a new one and run the risk that you will perseverate that one as well. Often you will not if the replacement is not as salient as the first. Ah the mystery of synapses !!

What attracts our attention the most can be a very good song or a very bad one. It gets stuck in our heads because they strike us by their good or bad quality. Till you hear a very good song, good luck...
