DISHONESTY has existed since the garden of Eden. Still, most cultures and societies value honesty and view lying and deception as undesirable and reprehensible. Being considered trustworthy is something to be proud of. Increasingly, though, dishonesty is regarded as necessary in order to survive in modern society. How do you feel about it? Is honesty worth cultivating? What is your standard for deciding what is honest behavior and what is not?

Honesty is always worth cultivating, it's not that dishonesty is a necessary in a modern world, but increasingly people are
getting away with dishonesty because fewer people know
eachother and reputation isn't as important in day to day dealings. Ebay is an interesting example of reputation though,
a sellers feedback reputation can make or break him, so good sellers go to great lengths to protect their reputation for honest fair dealings, this lets them deal with strangers from all around the world.

Honesty and trustworthiness are traits that YOU see in others and recognize that is a path you appreciate. The biblical story book tales were written when and as those individuals understood good and evil. supposedly, everything was available in the garden of eden wherever that was!

to me, honest behavior is important, but in defining honesty one often has to define what truth is, i dont think its necessary to be dishonest, yet sometimes we act in ways that are not honest and true to our beliefs and our spirits
honesty is not so simple as just telling the truth or not telling lies, dishonest is not just being deceptive and lying
for instance, you may be attending a family Thanksgiving get-together, you may really not wish to go this year, or you may not like some of the people there
yet you go, have polite casual conversations, perhaps agree with others that its great to get to see each other
are you being honest? not really, will you use deception during this gathering? most likely, yet you are doing it for the benefit of your family,
this type of deception is not meant to harm anyone, but it does point out how we as a society really do not want total honesty and truth to always be presented
to me, i am dishonest to my self, my beliefs, when i dont vocally speak out anytime i see anyone hit a child, whether they call it spanking or what, i can be honest in my home and not allow it, i can speak up sometimes, but sinces its allowed in our society and not illegal, i cant run over and start a huge agrguement with the person doing the hitting, i cant hit them to defend the child, etc etc so my society forces me to be dishonest in these situations
so yes, i believe for each person, society in some ways forces them to be dishonest, not true to their beliefs

The standard of honesty is speaking to our fellow "Children of God" as if they are divine Beings... which we all are.

The Bible's view of that is referred to as the Golden Rule.. Do unto others, as you would have them do unto you.

This resource gets into the method of culturing that kind of honesty.
