I have worked at this company for just under 3 years.
I have had stellar performance reviews, along with 3 promotions (this is more promotions than anyone else in my department).
I have never, ever been written up.

That being said -- my ex-boss got a promotion. He is now Sr. Vice President. They kind of "made" up a position for him because he is NOT good with people. He talks bad to his employees and has run off many, many people. So they took him away from people.
I was still his secretary but I was no longer directly his alone; I also had the new person that received his old position.
Anyway, he always comes back from his meetings or whatever, in a bad mood. When he's like that, I can expect to be picked on. He's done it before and I have said nothing.
Last week he brought me into his office and started again with the verbal abuse. Then he called my ideas terrible -- this irritated me. (Stand by for me to continue my question)

I have seen the other managers (all male) in our office get into verbal matches with him, keeping their honor. So, since I was so HURT and OFFENDED by him, I said "Terrible?? Really?? Oh come on, now, I'm offended."
He said "You are? Well then we're through."
"We're through? I don't like being offended, Jack*."
"Get out of my office Rebecca."
"Yeah, I'll get out. You only brought me in here to pick on me because you have nothing else to do with your day."
He turned and looked at me with his mouth dropped. I walked out.

Then, on Friday, my "new" boss, comes to me, kind of distraught, and tells me it's not working out with me in this position. He tells me that we have to part ways.

Do I have a case? Can I sue? Why, or why not?

1. The male managers in the office have cursed him out completely, and they have kept their jobs.
2. I have never uttered a rude or crass word to him or anyone in that office until then.

First answer-- If you can't be booovered, lol, then why reply? Oh wait -- that's right -- two points.
Second answerer -- let me finish before you cast judgement.

Passed up for another employee?? WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?
That's not what happened, I was FIRED for hurting the feelings of a mean, cruel and unhappy man!

Because his ego can't take a woman telling him that she doesn't like the way he's treating her.

I would never complain about not getting a promotion; I'm not like that. You misread.
Obviously.

What case could you possibly have, you were passed up for another employee ( your boss), it happens every day. If you did not like the way that you were treated you should have handled it then, and in an appropriate and business like manner. There are ways to keep corporate culture and business ethics while continuing to work in the same environment. I haven't even heard the rest of the story but know that there is not a case when you are complaining about not getting a promotion.

Office politics at its best. I reccommend the following book: 100+ Tactics for Office Politics
It's pretty informative and gives solutions for dealing with difficult superiors. This guys sounds like a classic case of 'screw-up, move-up'.

I really can't say you have a legal case here, but you have one for your HR department to look into when it comes to ethics. Unless you work for one of those companies that throw ethics completely out the window.

Good luck angel.

Are you also a manager in the same position as the males that have stood up to him? If so sounds like discrimination to me. Call an attorney see what he has to say.

A case for what? Being a lousy boss isn't a crime. If you don't like the job, find another.
