Google "interference engines" for your specific car. My experience is you have a problem when a Honda timing belt breaks but not with Toyota. Some manufacturers (e.g. Toyota) are using chains instead of belts now so this may be less of a problem in the future.

An interference engine is one where the valves will hit the pistons if out of time, bending the valves and costing you a valve job. I have never seen a Subaru with an interference engine, and yours isn't either. But I doubt that it's the problem; they just break, and your engine will quit running, no smells, pops, and no fluid loss... unless the water pump let go, it is run by the belt and could have caused a problem. If you had a bad burning smell I would be looking for an electronic failure, a burnt power feed wire or the like. Find out where the smell came from and you will find your problem.

I've never seen such ignorant people. Before you try to answer a questions, learn how to spell, and how to use words in a sentence.
