Only cat feces is potentially harmful and could carry toxoplasmosis. And even then, it is becoming very rare.

You don't have to worry about cat urine, or the smell.

The danger from cats comes from cat feces - you could get toxoplasmosis. I also have cats, so I read up on it a bit. Most people who have had cats for long have actually already been exposed to toxoplasmosis and have had no ill effects. Most people won't have any kind of reaction to catching it. It's rare that people have physical symptoms of it.

Of course, the danger is higher in pregnancy and you don't want to expose the baby to it. If you have never been exposed and do develop complications, it could be harmful. So that is why they tell you not to clean the litter box or also to work outdoors in your garden, in case an animal has been kind enough to poop there.

So it's really nothing to worry about, but of course it's best to wash your hands afterwards to remove any germs and prevent them from spreading. As long as you did that, it's no problem.

You have a higher chance of getting toxoplasmosis from digging in soil outside than from your cat. Is your cat an inside only cat? If so the chances are next to nothing of catching it.
