Hello, I work at a major hospital system in NJ and I am non union employee and my supervisor wants to change my schedule on weekends from 9-5 to 6-2.. I have another job at night and i can not do 6-2 and I have been working 9-5 on weekdays for 6 years and before I was hired I explained to her that I could not work 6-2 and she was ok with it and I have been working it ever since. what do i do am i going to lose my job. I am a great employee but she is angry at me because I am not able to take more hours because of my other job. how long do they have to let me go if i am unable to work the schedule she places me on. Please help!!

You have no right to work a set schedule.

The fact that you have a second job, has no bearing at all.

Employers can change working hours as they see fit, as long as they do not change them all the time.

They can transfer employees between shifts, to meet the needs of the employer.

So if they insist that you work the new hours, there is not much you can do.

You will have to decide, which job you would rather have.

The fact that they agreed to are were ok with you working a second job when you were hired, is not relivant.

Things change over a 6 year period, the needs of the employer change.

Nothing you can do. The employer needs people to cover shifts and if you are not available, they can let you go. Sounds like she is letting you make the decision to work or quit.

They have the upper hand, but I would talk to her about making it up in some way. If she knows you really love your job she may work with you.
