The sharp pains could be kidney stones. They definitely feel different than the pain of an infection, and I've read that all the crazy hormone shifts that come with pregnancy can make them more common. Be sure and get it checked out, your kidneys are responsible for filtering toxins from your blood. They are working double overtime when you are pregnant. A stone that is obstructing anything in your excretory system can impair their ability to function (been there, done that, no fun). Hope everything works out!

Welcome to the world of pregnancy! There is all kinds of changes going on in your body, even at 9 weeks! I don't think you are far enough along to be hurting though. The baby isn't big enough to be playing boxing with your kidneys are any other organs yet. You may have a kidney infection or a urinary tract infection. I would make a appointment with the doc and see just to make sure. Oh yeah, congratulations and try to be patient and enjoy your pregnancy. You have one of the greatest miracles in life happening inside of you right now!! :+)

I would say infection, I think if you had kidney stones you would know about it (speaking from experience) your uterus isn't even out of your pelvis yet so it is not due to the pregnancy in that respect. Go see your doc and take a urine sample with you.

it might be a UTi - go to the gp and get checked out - antibiotics may be prescribed although some gps dont like giving them in pregnancy.
try drinking cranberry juice / going to the toilet when you need to (dont hold on) - and drinking lots in the meantime
