I'm not a saint by any stretch of the imagination, but I tried to be available when I could. Not so much now physically since becoming disabled.
My work colleagues called me the "goto guy" because they knew I was always happy to help resolve problems, and teach them how ("Teach a man to fish,...").
Personally, my family and friends knew I'd be there for them, if only to provide moral support.
I know this sounds narcissistic, but what's wrong with acknowledging you care about others and enjoy helping?

I was for 18 years when I worked at a family owner hotel as their 24 hour maintenance person. I had no life. Now I no longer work for them. I make my self less available to anything or anyone.
