Quick and somewhat joking answer: Germany wouldn't have existed without it...

Real answer: Prussia had been a power for sometime in the region, but had been held back in some of its ambitions because of its size. Bizmarck was Prussian, and was instrumental in that unification.
The goals that Prussia had and some of its priorities became the same for the newly made Germany. Prussia had been a large military force and Germany continued that tradition, but with the new benefit of larger population and more resources.

The new Germany had the power and resources that Prussia never had to make her goals. Almost immediately Germany started making her own empire; pushing against her neighbors, making alliances with other power, and trying to take overseas colonies.

To summarize: the unification of Germany allowed the Prussian will to expand and need for power to take on a new level and begin making success. If German had not been unified, the spread of the power of the German states would not have been possible at all, or at the very least, much slower.

The unification of Germany united some 70+ million German speaking peoples. A united Germany was more powerful than Prussia or Bavaria or Hanover. With that united power Germany could project its desires into Africa and Asia Pacific and build a large navy to challenge British naval hegemony
