Not at all. It's just a name.
I am there right now - and it is an amazing place. It is true as the song says : "One night in Bangkok makes a hard man humble"
Anyway - a little trivia for you all. The locals do not call the city Bangkok. They call it "Krung Thep". Bangkok is only for foreigners. (There is a reason for that which I am not going into right here)
EDIT: To susurrus, Remember that it is NOT english in the first place. And the word Bangkok is actually pronounced "Baang Goerk". Cheers
