The Liberals make sure that the mines get rich, The unions make sure workers do it safely. I know who I want protecting me in the workplace when it comes to WORKCHOICES! The party protecting me not protecting my employer!

If i am not good at my job then they can fire me no questions. But with the cost of living going through the roof and mortgages getting bigger I want job protection. I make no apologies about that.

How do you feel about WORKCHOICES?

ezc692....it is great analogy as its the Liberal drawing the Unions into the election. Furthermore, You could actually use it across the workforce. If a worker gets into trouble anywhere, you can bet your house the Liberal Party won't be there to protect you!

It's ok for the Liberals to scare people with their anti-unions campaign, but as a worker I know who I want in my corner if something goes wrong!!

I agree with you totally, at least with the union if someone is unfairly treated or the OH&S arent up to standards and workers lives are at risk, then the union helpds support those people. i couldnt imagine what it would be like without a union, only that there would be more accidents in the work force.
Luckily for me, I at the moment dont need to worry about work choices. But I do have friends and families that do and this has affected their income, not to mention their lifestyles. Some have even had to look for new jobs.

Without the workers of the labouring unions, like the miners and the BLF, we'd all still be working 14 hour days and sending our kids down the pits.

No-one knows better than I do that Unions are NOT perfect, but the good they've done for this country deserves to be recognised.

Australians are hard working people. Most of us work long hours and do our best for the boss. Most bosses are decent people who do their best for their employees.

Big business is way different to small business, and it's worth remembering most corporations owe no-one anything, except the bottom line at the AGM.

So WHY was Howard so keen to introduce WorkChoices?

A few whiners in a couple of Employer UNIONS (oh, sorry, I mean 'professional associations') complained that they couldn't sack people easily enough.

Well, I'm willing to take a leaf out of their book.

I'm happy to sack Mr Howard.

Bring it on!

Cheers :-)

exactly, i dont see any clauses in workchoices to make anyone help out when miners are trapped. The Howard government like to beat their chest about how good the mining boom is, but offer no help when things go wrong. The unions on the other hand are the ones to come in and offer support and services to the rescuers.
And then Howard will come out with a bullsh!t statement to thank all the helpers, he doesn't care.

I am backing the future Rudd government to care a bit more.

I don't see the analogy. You're saying that a government or a political party should be at the site of a natural disaster directing things? Shouldn't it be either OH & S or the SES or similar?
EDIT Surfa 101 - I'm not anti union. I've been a union member before ( not relevant in my current job). I strongly believe in them, it's just that they sometimes go overboard with things that aren't relevant - strikes against nuclear countries; giving aid to political organisations in foreign countries etc. They should be looking after their members.

Now surfa I'm am going to have to take you to task on this question now really do you think the families of trapped miners are going to want John Howard and his merry men there trying to dig their loved ones out that bunch have so little idea of manual labour they wouldn't know which end of the shovel to use best they stay in there cosy offices and talk to the ceo be safer for the families that way

The simple fact is Australia's workers are responsible for our current economic prosperity, not "Workchoices".

Who really believes that "Workchoices" is not responsible for the businesses and executives claiming multi-million dollar paycheques whilst appeasing shareholders with measly dividend distributions?

Businesses couldn't believe their luck when Howard/Costello got in but they didn't employ more people...why would they? They saw the opportunity to cut costs and thus improve their bonuses and they took that opportunity and squeezed working pride and corporate social responsibility right out of it.

Vote Labor or Green for humanity sake!

I can't stand miners, I think most are failed carpenters and tradesmen who couldn't make a living elsewhere, face it, thats why they are forced to go underground ! Actually my venom is due to the fact that they earn so much and I once had this one idiot gold digging women choose a coal miner and hes money over me ! (can you imagine that !). Thank God ! she was a troll.........

How do you feel about WORKCHOICES?

Should be called "Employer Choices" not work choices because its got sod all to do with any choices a worker gets.
