Now bear in mind, I did RINSE them under the water, i just didnt use any soap.

I never use the soap because its on the other side of the bathroom and besides the germs get killed off by the heat from cooking anyway.

Anyways my boss caught me one day and is now threatening to sack me which I cant afford since the restuarant is very well known and would look great on my resume.

Do you think my employer is being unfair?

No, I think your employer is completely justified.
It's disgusting that you don't use soap, and even worse that you are a chef.
The germs do not get killed off by the cooking process as you do not get your hands hot enough, instead the germs are multiplying and going over the food of the people you are cooking for.

By not using soap you are breaking the number 1 rule of food safety and hygiene. You employer has every right to sack you.

Please let us know what restaurant you work in so that we NEVER go there.

No they are not! rinsing does not kill germs and the heat from cooking does not either. If your skin on your hands is not burnt then many germs are going to live. Different germs can survive off the body in cooler temps and also can survive higher temps. SO USE THE SOAP!!

How can you be so lacking in knowledge of germ killing. Besides it is the law in many states and provinces that you must wash your hands after using the toilet.

Remember that if someone gets ill after eating at that restaurant, they can sue and if it comes to light that you don't wash properly, you'll be named as the possible reason and sued as well. Cover your butt.

For the little time it takes to get the soap you're being very careless and disrespectful of your customers.

well unless you rinsed your hands in boiling hot water, rinsing them isn't going to make any difference. you should use soap. and the germs wouldn't get killed off from the heat from cooking. don't be so silly! what about the stuff you don't cook, for example, salad? if i was the boss i'd sack you tbh.

would you like to eat food that someone made just after they'd been to the toilet, and hadn't washed their hands properly? no i didn't think you would.

P.S where do you work? i need to make a mental note NOT to eat there =)

Of course not! I'd fire you too if I knew you weren't washing your hands. And for your info, you wrote "and besides the germs get killed off by the heat from cooking anyway." Ever heard of cross-contamination? Your hands touch fooditems that will not be cooked also. Unless you're going to stick your hands in boiling water for 5 minutes..... your hands are covered in germs. So good luck with that! You might have to start jobhunting!

Your employer is being fair! Don't you worry about the threat to public health due to your lack of hygiene? If a customer fell ill, due to your dirty hands, everyone will LOSE their jobs, not just you! You say that the soap is the other side of the bathroom and you just RINSE your hands, where do you rinse them? The toilet?

i don't understand why you would not wash your hands and the theory that cooking with heat will kill germs is ridiculous. with all the e-coli bacteria running rampid you are putting consumers in jeopardy. i hate to hear of anyone being fired, so maybe if you tell your boss that you will be more concious of your hygiene he will be less severe, but if you insist on just rinsing your hands maybe you should find another profession, maybe a mechanic, their hands are usually dirty if you are comfortable with that.

No i don't. If you happen to food poison someone who eats at the restaurant due to you just rincing your hands then you, the owners and the restaurant will all be in a lot of trouble. Sacking you for bad practice could save someones live, anothers livelihood and a good reputation.

Although i agree that you SHOULD always wash your hands especially in your job, the simple fact is you would have a very good case for unfair dismissal.

You might win but morally? I think your employer is right and in your place i would feel they are right too.

in spite of if the germs do killed off by utilising the warmth, there continues to be a gamble that lots of the germs in no way have been given killed and you're passing those germs that have been as quickly as on your hand onto people who're going to consume your nutrition and you gets them ill. in case you get that individual ill, then there would be a gamble that the wellbeing inspection branch would are available and close the eating place by way of this blunders.

Tell me the name of the restaurant & I'll make sure I won't go there ,,,,ever.....

Rinsing with water only don't kill any germs,,,,

Unless u put your hands into the fire/boiling oil itself, u don't kill any germs as well.

I'm surprised they don't teach u the basic of self cleanliness at whichever cooking school u graduated from,,,,
