If you are judged insane, and placed in a facility, the costs are dependent both on where you are committed, as well as what you are able to afford. For instance if you are broke, you may find yourself in a state hospital. While it may look like a good way of getting free room and board, think again. You might as well say that going to prison is free room and board. I do not think it is the accommodations that keep our prisons filled.
The only reason you can be safely locked up is if you are judged a threat to either yourself or others. You can still be crazy and be put out on the streets, you just can not be dangerous. As for those that are dangerous, well just like prison, they have security to keep them inside, they have may even have less freedoms then someone in jail, and then there is always others things to consider such as straight jackets, medication, or electro-shock treatments, hey maybe they can even do a frontal lobotomy and really seal the deal.
I have known someone that was locked up for a time, not only was it tough to be under 24 hour a day watchful eyes, but they said the food sucked, and was always either over cooked, or tasteless.
And then there is the problem of if you do not like where you are at, just like in prison, you can not simply walk away. You can not leave until they say you can, and if you try telling them that you are not crazy, and that you only pretended to be to get free room and board.... they would have to think, "good thing that this guy is already locked up, because he is nuts!"

be urself! ha ha. only messin, it has 2 b believed that you hav a mental illnes, or may be a threat to youself or others if you are not taken into care. if you wana go but nothings wrong with you, i'd suggest watchin "the that flew over the cuckoos nest" first! its about a sane guy that pretend to b mad an get into an asylum to avoid jail, surrounded by mad people makes him mad, he tries to prove hes sane to get out, but it does work as they think hes even more mad!

Talk about killing your self and make a plan- so you sound serious! Go to emergency room and tell them that.That should get you 72 hours in there! At least for observation. Then they may ship you off to a mental health facility.

Start by acting sad, then give away your personal possessions, then write a suicide note and leave it where someone will find it "in the nick of time".

going mad is high on the list, believing politicians, bungi jumping, but if you think you are mad you are sane enougth not to be.
