they do it for the love of the children, get practically no financial help. yet foster carers get paid up to £300 per week per child.

Presumably you are talking about grandparents who have the grandchildren living with them because the parents aren't around. It is only if a grandparent is approved by, and registered with, the local authority as a child carer, that tax credit may be claimed by a parent for payments made to a grandparent for looking after the grandchild. Yet carers of older relatives and disabled relatives are given carers' allowance.
All too often grandparents who are full time carers often do not get the financial support or advice from local authorities that they need, and although a grandparent with a residence order may ask the local authority for a residence order allowance, payment is at the discretion of the local authority as is the amount of the payment.
Grandparents always have been unsung heroes.

Well I know that as a grand parent my wife and I have spent ages looking after our grand kids ( 8 of them ) and really have loved doing it. When they were little we looked after them so mums could go to work, either full or part time..As they got older , picked them up from school. took them to our home for tea and looked after them till parents collected them ... Now they are older tend to be a taxi service taking them to pictures, dance classes etc. I agree that grandparents contribute an awful lot to the lives of their children and grand kids, and are very happy to do it,, Cost doesn't come into it. Its what grandparents are for isn't it / I have loved every minute of it...

The problem is that in this country children put their parents in homes. SAD ! If my daughters put me in a home I will run away everytime !
I would love to look after my grand-children but with four daughters, LOL... take me to a home, quick !! (JOKE)
