It depends on whether you're going to be using MacOS X (which also depends on what software you're going to be running). If you don't plan on using MacOS then not buying a Mac would probably be your best option.

Though if you need to you can run windows on a Mac so if you do buy a Mac you won't have a problem there (you'll just need to buy a copy of Windows (XP is better than Vista)).

I would say go for the MacBook over a windows laptop for multiple reasons. The hardware is superior and just by looking/holding the laptop you will be able to tell it's a quality product. The software is also amazing and exceptionally reliable, my Mac never crashes.

If you're in doubt about which operating system to use, I would say Mac OS X as it's easy, enjoyable to use (to say the least) and fast to load everything. The OS also doesn't start to eat itself and generate all the problems Windows is well known for. Everything on an Apple is simple. For example, when you install a program, you just drag it into your Applications folder.

The programs that the Apple has available for such graphic/video editing are the best in their class and offer superior tools for such design. For example, Final Cut Pro is industry standard.

If you're still worried about not being able to use Windows (and I'm sure once you start using a Mac you won't be), you can use bootcamp to install both operating systems and on start up you can choose between them. You can also buy a program so they run simultaneously.

Hope this helps.

i work in the digial media field as well as in college for it. i would go with a macbook pro and have final cut pre-installed in it when you buy it that would take care of all the video and audio in one program. if money is not the issue then i would also get final cut studio which is expensive but worth the money
http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/

as for windows i would stay away from it when making videos where as they only have a few programs for video making which arent that great with working with, and cant do half the stuff the final cut can do
