India has been the largest producer of milk and milk products in the world ever since it overtook the US in 1997.
We produce much more than our consumption requirements and there's plenty left for various processed foods such as sweets, yogurt, cheese, ice-cream etc...
Yet adulteration is rampant. Children die after consuming poisonous spurious milk made from chemicals such as Urea.
Just for earning a little profit, people's lives are being exposed to this grave threat. A few greedy people are running such rackets and the worst part is, that THEY HAVE NO FEAR OF LEGAL CONSEQUENCES. The legal penalty is neither potent nor does it generate any apprehension in the minds of these criminals.

Shouldn't adulteration of food be considered equivalent to cold blooded attempt to murder and be equally punishable by law?.

You are quite right in asking this...

As a mother, i feel very strongly that the maximum possible penalty must be imposed on those who ply in this trade. For it is these people who callously expose the health and lives of other people to the threat of poisoning.

Adulteration of food should DEFINITELY be punishable by death.

Food adulteration is certainly a crime equivalent to attempted murder.

Just for petty profits, adulterators poison the masses with spurious food and drink.

Also, fear of the law must be such that no one even contemplates comitting such a heinous crime.

No less than a Death penalty is ample punishment.

Unudeltrated food means better quality means higher prices means poor cant buy food means they die.

They die in any ways!!

Please stop criticizing the authorities for everything. You are a part and parcel of this system, if you want a change be the change. Start complaining to the consumer courts if you come across any such cases. Killing people in the name of law just makes problems more complicated and people more into slaves.

Nothing will workout in this lawless country. Law enforcing authorities, bribe, corrupt mindset, these are the things involved and you know the outcome. Even if very harsh provisions are made in the law, it is difficult to implement because of above said factors. If the Govt. has the will and strong moral then the present laws itself are sufficient to book the criminals.

Large scale fraudulent schemes involving sale of adulterated food must be meted with death penalty because the public health is put in jeopardy.

it is alright that the magistrate has ordered to close rather to seal the shop from where the raw materials were fetched. knowing well that the food is meant for high profile dignitary , the responsible cook could have used other good quality of the same , instead of using the insect-infested raw materials. He could have informed the higher authorities about the quality of the food materials that he received for the cooking. What action was taken against the cook ?
