My computer (which is running windows xp) doesnt have security center or windows firewall. My limewire just stopped working recently and I went to the limewire support page and it said it might be because of my windows firewall. So it told me to go to my control panel and switch to "classic view" and double click on Windows firewall but I noticed that i didnt have a Windows firewall icon so then i went to Microsoft.com it said it should be under Security center and I noticed again I dont have that icon either. So I decided to look under them under search, and it didnt come up.How can I fix this?

Well if you don't have security center or windows firewal lyou must be running windows xp service pack 1. Download and install XP Service Pack 2 and install it. Your system will be updated with a Security Center and windows firewall automatically.

Are you using some network security package? If yes, that window firewall should refer to the firewall which you have installed either WinXP SP2 or other network security suite.

In addition, you should not turn off your firewall, just add the trusted web-site into permitted list. You should be able to find such opinion in the perference or config of the secuirty suite.

Are you an "Administrator" on your system? ... If not, then it's pointless to search for Security Center or Windows Firewall..... If yes, then read further: -

Go to Control Panel > Network Connections.

Right - Click on your internet connection..... and select "Properties".

On the "Properties" window, select "Advanced" tab........ You'll see "Windows Firewall" at the very top.... Click on "Settings", and turn it OFF.

Restart the system... and have fun!

IMHO windows firewall is lame. Go with the freely available ZoneAlarm firewall. http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,7228-page,1-c,firewalls/description.html

Also if you need anti-virus go with Avast! it is also free and is way less resource intensive than McAffe and norton.
