I know though that I can't take more then 200mg in a day. But so far EVERY day I've had a Migraine come up and I've taken 2 Imitrex and it's worked fine. my Doctor only gave me 12 but the Pharmacist only gave me 9 which SUCKS!! I got 3 and I don't see my doctor for a month.

IMITREX (Brand name) and the base drug is SUMATRIPTAN - This helps to relieve a migraine attack that starts with or without aura (a peculiar feeling or visual disturbance that warns you of an attack). Sumatriptan is not used to prevent migraine attacks. Generic sumatriptan nasal spray is not yet available.

Follow the directions on the prescription label. Sumatriptan is given at the first symptoms of a migraine attack; it is not for everyday use. If your migraine headache returns after one dose, you can take another dose at least 2 hours after the first dose. Do not use more than 40 mg total of this spray in any 24 hour period. Since sumatriptan nasal spray comes in different strengths, check with your pharmacist to see how many sprays you can use in a day of your prescription that equal 40 mg. If there is no improvement at all after the first dose, do not take a second dose without talking to your prescriber or health care professional. Do not take your medicine more often than directed.

Side effects that you should report to your prescriber or health care professional as soon as possible:
Rare or uncommon:
• chest or throat pain, tightness
• dizziness or faintness
• fast, slow, or irregular heart beat
• feeling of chest heaviness or pressure
• increased or decreased blood pressure
• loss of vision or vision changes
• palpitations
• seizures (convulsions)
• severe stomach pain and cramping, bloody diarrhea
• shortness of breath, wheezing, or difficulty breathing
• tingling, pain, or numbness in the face, hands or feet
• unusual reaction or swelling of the skin, eyelids, face, or lips

Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report to your prescriber or health care professional if they continue or are bothersome):
• change in taste
• diarrhea
• drowsiness
• feeling warm, flushing, or redness of the face
• muscle pain or cramps
• nausea, vomiting, or stomach upset
• tiredness or weakness

Please do not take this medicine on your own. Please take only on doctor's prescription and in case of any adverse side effect consult your doctor immediately. Hope these information will help you. -

Sumatriptan is used to treat the symptoms of migraine headaches (severe, throbbing headaches that sometimes is accompanied by nausea or sensitivity to sound and light). Sumatriptan is in a class of medications called selective serotonin receptor agonists. It works by narrowing blood vessels in the head and stopping pain signals from being sent to the brain. Sumatriptan does not prevent migraine attacks.
Please see the web pages for more details on Sumatriptan (generic name) Imitrex (brand name).
