Also, what does it mean when RAM is buffered? Is that a good thing?

"Short for Error-Correcting-Code memory, a type of memory that includes
special circuitry for testing and accuracy of data as it passes in and
out of memory."

Most home computers use standard memory, while ECC memory is used for
commercial applications where data integrity is very critical.
When buying memory, the only time you will see ECC mentioned is if the
memory *is* ECC, not if it is *not* ECC. ECC memory is also more
expensive since it has an extra memory chip and circuitry to do the
error correction.

Hope this helps.

ECC = Error Correcting Code

Means the RAM has an extra bit used for error correction...

So non-ECC means it doesn't have error correction.

Needs to match what your PC has - if your PC expects ECC and it's not there your PC will get upset.

ECC costs extra money, and is usually only run on server-class mobos.

ECC means Error Correcting Control. It depends on the mother board as to what type is to be used. Go to www.wikipedia.org for a complete explanation. Depending on the motherboard, it may or may not use that type no matter what type of computer.
