You would be partly you, partly somebody else

The mind and body are often associated as one, but actually they are not.

For example, most physical attributes of a person can be changed, but as for mental attributes it's impossible.

Therefore, if I was changed to another person's body, I guess I would be quite the same- My character, personality, and the way i talk and my actions... the list goes on.

Even if I was originally a weakling and now i have a body builder body, sooner or later it would still go back to the weakling look, because I would not know how to take care of a body builder body. And all this lies in the mind.

Even if you're in someone else's body, you'll still be the same person you are now. The only difference will be the way you look.
Of course, if others don't know it's actually you in a different body, you might find yourself in a difficult position cause you won't be able to do some things without your original body, for eg. if you're a guy in real life but get stuck in a girl's body or vice versa and no one actually knows that you're a guy and not a girl.

Let's say you are a guy and wake up in a woman's body. Would you still be you? I don't think so. You would have your brain, but you would have the body and hormones of a woman. Same thing to a lesser extent, I suppose, if you keep your gender but wake up in another body. Our bodies certainly are important in our definitions of ourselves. Don't you think so?

People say that it's what is inside that counts.

So, the mind, the personality... That makes the person I guess, but still... I think a physical being is what makes us human, and that being the case, it is an important part of who we are.

I have often wished for a different body but my same personality, so I could get the girls I want. If I had a different personality, I would probably have different priorities.

the body that you have at age seventy is very different from the body you have at age seven - but for all practical purposes we say you are the same person.

and also if a person loses a leg, they do not become someone else, nor if they lose both legs (not even if they dye their hair).

if you can put on an ape suit but still remain the same person it should be just as easy to be who you were before in a new body.

To an extent. You would bring the same memories and attitudes with you but there would be physiological differences in the body. For instance, the other person's body might have a greater or lesser tendency to panic.

My belief is that "you" is an embodiment of not just your own perspective on yourself, but the perspectives of others on "you" that help give a different reflection on yourself.

Try imagining a person that posts on online forums anonymously. What kind of person is he? If he were to migrate his mind to another person's body and uses that person's body to reveal himself to the world, does this mean his old body ceases to exist (or perhaps, never existed)?

You could even change this question to ask "if a tree falls in a forest, but no one is around to see or hear it, did the tree ever fall?"

What I'm saying here is that you're only as much of yourself as what you and others think of you. The answer will vary from person to person, depending on what they do and what they want.

We are defined by our thoughts, ideas, values and inclinations...... these are primarily governed and directed by our soul and mind...... the nuances of the body we have as a tool to carry out our will requiring physical action, can have but only a minuscule impact on our being....... unless the body is weak or unhealthy or incapacitated or ugly, in which case it will exert a major negative influence on our mind altering our personality for the worse.

To a degree. It depends on how great looking or how ugly this "other guy" is in comparison.

Whether we like it or not, people do react differently based on how people look. If you switch bodies, the reactions you receive could change you from who you would have been to who you will be (I hope that makes sense to you).

You would be "you" mentally for a time though. If the looks were similar as far as "attractiveness" You'd probably go on to be who you would have been had you remained in your body.

Good luck convincing your current GF that it is you though :)

How could you ? The physical brain is part of the physical body , isn't it ?

Interesting how many automatically read "mind" for the word "brain !"
