Constipation means that a person has three bowel movements or fewer in a week. The stool is hard and dry. Sometimes it is painful to pass. You may feel "draggy" and full; bloated and gassy.
If you don't have the urge to go ; do not have abdominal cramps; or headaches.or have the above symptoms, i won't be too concerned. However, 2 weeks is a long time for overdue eliminations. When I have the problem; eating 2-3 pitted prunes seem to immediately do the trick. You can also try prune juice. DRINK plenty of water. The longer the waste prducts stay in the colon; the more water is absorbed; making the stools harder to pass. Eat a lot of green and leafy vegetables with lots of roughage and fibers. Another one to take is MOM , a mild laxative.
Relying on laxatives make the bowels lazy. It's habit-forming. Try to think about it and make it a daily morning constitution.
If you must, you can put on a pair of gloves, and do a digital extraction if anything is there. We perform this procedure on the geriatric patients as this problem seem to be common among them.
Some people think they should have a bowel movement every day. That is not really true. There is no "right" number of bowel movements. Each person's body finds its own normal number of bowel movements. It depends on the food you eat, how much you exercise, and other things.
At one time or another, almost everyone gets constipated. In most cases, it lasts for a short time and is not serious. When you understand what causes constipation, you can take steps to prevent
Changing what you eat and drink and how much you exercise will help relieve and prevent constipation. Here are some steps you can take.
1. Eat more fiber.
High-Fiber Foods
Fruit such as apples,peaches raspberries; tangerines;
Vegetables: such as acorn squash, raw broccoli; raw brussel sprouts; raw cabbage, raw carrots; raw cauloiflower; cooked spinach; and raw Zucchini.
Breads such as , Cereals, and Beans such as Whole-grain cereal, cold (All-Bran, Total, Bran Flakes)
Whole-grain cereal, hot (oatmeal, Wheatena) Whole-wheat or 7-grain bread
Black-eyed peas, cooked
Kidney beans, cooked
Lima beans, cooked
2. Drink plenty of water and other liquids such as fruit and vegetable juices and clear soups.
Liquid helps keep the stool soft and easy to pass, so it's important to drink enough fluids. Try not to drink liquids that contain caffeine or alcohol. Caffeine and alcohol tend to dry out your digestive system.
3. Get enough exercise.
Regular exercise helps your digestive system stay active and healthy. You don't need to become a great athlete. A 20- to 30-minute walk every day may help.
Allow yourself enough time to have a bowel movement.
Sometimes we feel so hurried that we don't pay attention to our body's needs. Make sure you don't ignore the urge to have a bowel movement.
5. Use laxatives only if a doctor says you should.
Laxatives are medicines that will make you pass a stool. Most people who are mildly constipated do not need laxatives. However, if you are doing all the right things and you are still constipated, your doctor may recommend laxatives for a limited time.
Your doctor will tell you if you need a laxative and what type is best for you. Laxatives come in many forms: liquid, chewing gum, pills, and powder that you mix with water, for example.
6. Check with your doctor about any medicines you take.
Some medicines can cause constipation. They include calcium pills, pain pills with codeine in them, some antacids, iron pills, diuretics (water pills), and medicines for depression. If you take medicine for another problem, be sure to ask your doctor whether it could cause constipation.

Hi,
For the permanent cure you have modify your diet. Pl. follow the the plan given as under.
Dietary modifications
Fibre: The fibre intake should be increased. High fibre foods like whole grain cereals, whole dals, green leafy vegetables and fruits should be consumed in increased amounts.
Fats: Fatty foods are useful for some because of their lubricating effect and stimulating action on the mucous lining.
Fluids: it is advised to drink plenty of fluids as it helps to soften the stools. An intake of 8-10 glasses of water or fluids in a day is a must. A glass of lukewarm water with lemon juice taken early in the morning also helps.
Sample diet plan
Meal Menu

Breakfast Milk / tea

I agree with Peaches. I too know how you feel. I had 2 shoulder surgeries in 3 months and was taking probably 10 percocets a day. I went 11 days without having a bowl movement., but I didn't really care since I was stoned. I took Dulcolax Gel Capsules and everything came out alright. lol. I know some people who have a hard time keeping the Miralax down. I hope this helps a little.

More fibre for sure!! Have a banana smoothie and add some bran but not too much or it will be gritty - also buy metamucil and drink it once a day, or alternatively get fibresure and add it to everything!
Senokot is avail at pharmacy and is gentle enough to take daily also.
Also ask a doctor if you could be a celiac? unsure of spelling
Hope this helps
