Have there ever been concerts where the supporting band was better than the main band?? or when the suporting act eventually became bigger than that band they were suporting?

the closest thing i can think of is kanye west supporting u2 in their australian tour. but that doesnt count cos u2 are clearly bigger.

I saw Journey opening for Ted Nugent in the mid-1970s. I went to the concert to see Journey. Most of the Nugent fans didn't know who they were. They ended up being a LOT bigger than Nugent.

An odd one was in 1979 when I saw Sammy Hagar opening for Van Halen. Nobody would have predicted that several years later Sammy would replace David Lee Roth in Van Halen.

Celine Dion opened for Michael Bolton.
