In Italy they kill thousands of black cats (poor kitties) due to superstition that black cats are unlucky
Black Cat Day has been introduced by animal rights campaigners to stop the cull.
I think it's a brilliant idea.
60,000 cats were killed last year alone.
Has countries like Italy gone mad????

You would like Chairman Tang's words: " No matter it is a white cat or a black cat, as long as it can catch mice, it is a good cat." This is a good sentence on modern management. Don't judge by the outlook or race but judge on the performance.
Cat is good for hunting mice so mice would not live in your area. It related back to black-death period, it was some small insect living on mice to kill people. They may also live in black-cat because it is so close to color of mice. Then, those black-cat are in very badluck .

i flow with the British idea that black cats deliver good success. i love them, black animals look so a lot extra loose-lively. If I observed a black cat in a protect, that would not end me from adopting it. If i might want to, i'd shop all of them.

I think it is superstition to the extreme. If we killed or got rid of everything merely on the grounds of it ,what would be left?

I wonder how long they have been doing this because if they have been doing it every year for years and years then why are there still black cats around and breeding? Surely the population of black cats should have died out already?
And I agree with you, it's cruel, barbaric and totally unfounded.

You mean they go into homes and just take the cats? or do they treat it like a ritual?
Personally,if they were "killing" "feral" cats I would not have a problem with that. For the sensible reason of public health issues.

How awful , I would adopt one, I used to have a lovely black kitten called alfie who loved to sleep cosied into my neck like I was his mum.
