My husband & I are thinking of taking jobs on the military base in Wiesbaden, Germany. How do we get SOFA & does it cover housing & other base benefits?

My husband & I are thinking of taking jobs on the military base in Wiesbaden, Germany. How do we get SOFA & does it cover housing & other base benefits such as paying to get our belongings over there?

Status of Forces Agreement is established by the the U.S. Government with a foreign government when they have U.S. military, and government employees in a foreign country. It usually covers legal status, and other considerations of legal matters for the military members and family, and the government employee and family. It does nothing to guarantee housing and base benefits. Housing and base benefits would be up to DOD employment office to determine what benefits you would be entitled to overseas.

SOFA is the Status of Forces Agreement between the U.S. and Germany. Whether you are covered by that agreement as DOD civilians and are entitled to housing and medical depends on your contract and GS rating. You need to talk to someone who is in the business of hiring civil service personnel for overseas assignment with the the military. The link below is for the Federal Office of Personnel Management. They are the "headquarters" for civil servants.
