its true anal sex is dangerous. as the anal tube is dirty and very difficult to wash it properly. See below some facts about anal sex

Anal sex exposes participants to two principal dangers: infections, due to the high number of infectious microorganisms not found elsewhere on the body, and physical damage to the anus and the rectum due to their vulnerability.

Recent reports have documented that risky behavior is on the rise among men who have sex with men. Likewise, among men who have sex with women, a 1992 study of socially and sexually active Puerto Rican men indicated that of the more than 40% who reported having anal sex with women, very few had used condoms.

Infectious diseases
Among the diseases with which anal sex is associated are HIV, anal cancer, typhoid fever and various diseases associated with the infectious nature of fecal matter or sexual intercourse in general. Among these are: Amoebiasis; Chlamydia; Cryptosporidiosis; E. coli infections; Giardiasis; Gonorrhea; Hepatitis A; Hepatitis B; Hepatitis C; Herpes simplex; Human papillomavirus; Lymphogranuloma venereum; Pubic lice; Salmonellosis; Shigella; Syphilis; Tuberculosis.

HIV/AIDS
The high concentration of white blood cells around the rectum, together with the risk of cuts to the rectum and that one of the functions of the rectum is to absorb fluid, increases the risk of HIV transmission because the HIV retrovirus reproduces within the immune system's T-cells/CD4 cells. Use of condoms and other precautions are a medically recommended way to lessen risk of infections. Unprotected receptive anal sex is the most risky sexual behavior in terms of HIV transmission.

Physical damage
Physical damage to the rectum and anus can manifest as generalized ano-rectal trauma, hemorrhoids, anal fissures, and rectal prolapse. An insufficient amount of lubricant can make it especially painful or injurious.Damage is more likely if intercourse is forcible or aggressive, if alcohol or other drugs have dulled sensitivity, if communication is poor, or if technique is clumsy.

Incontinence
Incontinence has also been reported; the result of the anal sphincter losing its tonus. However a 1997 study published in the American Journal of Gastenerology found no difference in levels of incontinence between homosexual man who engaged in anal sex and heterosexual men who did not, and severely criticised an earlier 1993 study published in the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine which had found that fourteen out of a sample of forty men receiving anal intercourse experienced episodes of frequent anal incontinence for its inclusion of flatulus in its definition of incontinence.Tristan Taormino argues in her book The Ultimate Guide to Anal Sex for Women that proper technique, clear communication, and mutual consent can reduce the risk of incontinence.

Cancer
Most cases of anal cancer are related to infection with the human papilloma virus. The incidence of the disease has jumped 160% in men and 78% in women in the last thirty years, according to a 2004 American study. The increase is attributed to changing trends in sexual behavior and tobacco use. Current use of tobacco increased the incidence of anal cancer four-fold, while a history of multiple sex partners (fifteen or more) or receptive anal sex increased the incidence seven-fold.

now question is why and how other people using this safely answer is like this

As the rectal mucosa provides no natural lubrication, personal lubricant is most often required or preferred when penetrating the anus.

Because the vaginal opening is located so close to the anus, without proper precautions it is not uncommon for sexual partners to spread bacteria from the anus into the vagina as well as the urethra, the repercussions of which can include urinary tract infection (UTI), which can lead to infection of the kidneys. This also happens if an object or appendage is inserted rectally and then vaginally before proper cleaning.

Latex gloves or condoms can be used to reduce the risk. It is also possible to take acceptable measures separate from such protection, which include (but are not limited to) hand washing and being conscious and wary of where one's hands and devices are placed.

Condoms are less effective and more prone to burst or slip during anal sex than vaginal sex. While one study estimates that condoms fail anywhere from 10% - 32% of the time during anal sex,[39] SIECUS indicates a much lower failure rate of 0.5 to 12%.

On this subject, the CDC says "Most of the time, condoms work well. However, condoms are more likely to break during anal sex than during vaginal sex. Thus, even with a condom, anal sex can be very risky. A person should use generous amounts of water-based lubricant in addition to the condom to reduce the chances of the condom breaking."

Some manufacturers offer "extra strong" condoms designed specifically for anal intercourse. These condoms, while stronger, are usually not coated with spermicide and so offer less protection against pregnancy should semen enter a woman's vagina, but will lessen the chance of irritation to the sensitive anus area.

In a 1998 joint conference of the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality and the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists, Jack Morin recommended Kegel exercises for people interested in anal sex to eliminate the possibility of loss of muscle tone, though he claimed he had never observed muscle loosening himself and the comment was primarily concerned with insertion of fists and other large objects.

The danger of anal cancer may be reduced by an HPV vaccine. According to Dr Anne Szarewski, "Men who have sex with men are at a much higher risk than average of anal cancer and genital warts, particularly if they are HIV-positive," and this population may benefit from the vaccine.

She could have internal haemorrhoids or even warts, this can cause anal bleeding. When we get older our tissues 'dry up' and cells get older so they don't secrete as much. The bowel is filled with mucous most of the time (to aid the passage of poo), but with anal sex u need to use lots of water- based lubrication (not vaseline as it harbours bacteria). The Dr can do a quick check with a proctoscope to have a look to see what is going on, but I would hold off with the anal sex 4 now, as the bleeding won't get better. Maybe she was too dry? Also a rectal ultrasound can be done to check for any abnormalities. Make sure she tells her Dr that she engages in anal sex. With any prolonged bleeding, put pads/towels whatever u have at hand, and get her to lie on a pillow with her bottom up (so the blood doesn't flow downward). Ice wrapped in a teatowel will help constrict blood vessels and make sure she doesn't take Ibuprofen (as it causes internal bleeding in the body) - unless she has been taking too many anti-inflammatories? Hope she feels better soon.

I don't really think it is question of either good or bad just because its anal sex. Its how one does it? And if that is the real question, then it can be bad or good or neither depending on how one approaches it, performs it and practices it! Properly done by both willing partners its a good and enjoyable experience. Poorly done by willing or unwilling partners can be both bad and harmful. Forcefully done by only one willing partner, its not only bad and harmful but also criminal act; and this goes also with whatever type or form of sex!

It goes without saying, therefore, those who want to play the game must follow the rules and obey the "laws"!

All the best!/

With two life partners I do believe they are free from some of the negative problems related to it. But the new thinking is it should be done rarely. Once per month is considered too much by some health practitioners due to the problems related to the possible damage to the anus. The one woman health expert saw it as something to be practiced no more than 4 times per year.

No longterm effect. Muscle tone not affected. The control over muscles is increased though.

On a side note - The anus definitely does get its own lubrication else how would fecal matter manage to slip past?
