That and do you get a reasonable amount of discression in setting your pleas so the pov drug dealing criminals get lots of time in prison so they don't bother college kids all night trying to get money money for stolen stuff

Salary range is totally dependant on where you are.

The ADA's where I am (Northern CA) are going on strike in a few days because they believe their salaries ($80,000 - $137,000) are too low.

Plea offers are entirely at the ADA's discretion. Accepting them is entirely at the defendants discretion.

If the ADA sets his plea offers too high, defendants won't accept them, and he'll be in court trying cases all the time. Since there's only a limited amount of resources available, that means some other criminals will be getting off.
