Personally I like having a glass of milk with my food. It helps wash it down; especially if the food happens to go down the wrong pipe. It's not a psychological thing; it's a safety issue as to how much one enjoys choking vs. taking a drink.

There is no scientific evidence to support a need to separate eating and drinking to allow digestion to proceed properly. Food is prepared for digestion in the stomach where it is mixed with hydrochloric acid to break it down. The resulting mixture empties into the small intestine where enzymes digest the various components - protein, carbohydrate and fat. The rate of emptying from the stomach depends to some extent on how full the stomach is. A full stomach empties at a quicker rate than a half full one, and there is evidence that the increased rate of stomach emptying leads to quicker absorption of digested carbohydrate (glucose) into the blood.
Therefore, drinking with a meal will increase the volume of stomach contents, stimulating a faster emptying rate. Far from slowing digestion, this may even speed it up a little.
Is It Safe to Drink Cold Water with Meals?
The answer is yes, it's perfectly safe. Pay no attention to the email rumour claiming that drinking cold water with meals "slows down digestion" and coats the intestines with cancer-causing "sludge." It doesn't have a scientific leg to stand on
Pay no attention to the following mail:-----

Cold Water = CANCER
Drinking cold water after meal = Cancer!
(this is not a joke)
For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you. It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion.
Once this "sludge" reacted with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine.
Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.

I sometimes eat first and then drink, but sometimes I drink with the meal. Other times I just don't drink.

Your question takes me back to when I was a little girl at my grandmothers house. She refused to give me a glass of milk or water (!) until I'd eaten my dinner. I must ALWAYS have a drink (regular drinks) at my side when I'm eating. Morning- coffee. Lunch- juice, water or soda. Dinner: juice. That was an interesting question. I mean, what would happen if you didn't have a drink at your side during the meal, and you choked on something??? Hello, WATER.

I will have a few bits of the food, and then after i might have a sip of something. I would never sip a drink with food in my mouth, and i wouldn't wait untill the end of the meal to have a drink

Personally, I prefer to drink while I eat instead of leaving all of my juice or whatever until the end. However, I always like to end with a drink to keep my mouth moist, so it sucks when I run out of any juice or whatever before I'm done eating.

I have to drink water while I am eating. People say it makes you get full faster, but that so isn't the case with me. I just get really thirsty while I'm eating. You gotta wash that stuff down, you know!

Okay, you answered your own question. It's all in your head. My husband is the same way ,altho I don't think he even drinks when he's done. I think it depends on how you were raised. We always had water and milk at the table, and were told to "finish your milk, before leaving the table."
