Describe the Situation the Marines found themselves in at their base at Khe Sahn. How was the "situation" resolved?

I'm doing this huge report, and I need various opinions.

The battle of Khe Sanh, from the U.S. command level:

"The enemy did go all out to take Khe Sanh and undoubtedly this was a major element of Hanoi's Tet Offensive. Overwhelming air-and ground-delivered firepower, coupled with resupply and reinforcements capabilities by air, regardless of weather and visibility conditions, were U.S. cards that the enemy could not match. Yet undue fear of Khe Sanh's loss persisted until the enemy began withdrawing in March 1968 and the area was cleared by 1st Calvary Div. airmobile operations in conjunction with a Marine ground linkup in April 1968."

General Bruce Palmer, Jr.

From the level of a historian and scholar:

"Imposing a siege on Khe Sanh from January 21 to early April, the PAVN saw it as a diversion intended to draw American forces to a remore area along with their covering air power. Khe Sanh also convinced Westmoreland that an offensive would be launched in the northern provinces. By the end of February, with half of the American maneuver battalions concentrated in I Corps, Westmoreland had fallen into the trap."

They were completely surrounded and under siege. The only way that they could be reinforced or resupplied was by air. They endured constant shelling for several weeks. Heavy air support and tenacious defense eventually convinced the NVA to abandon the siege.

You might find this one at the "Leap Over Web Clutter" section at New Free Books.. I remember a history link there that has a time line and articles on each period of history.
