The following information came from the site listed below. Therefore, Maryland has no state policy that would dictate the amount of sick leave granted and thus no responsibility in setting corporate policy in how much can be taken without being held against the employee. The amount of paid sick leave, if any, will be determined by the company that you are working for. In general, since Maryland is an employment-at-will state, then the employer is completely free to terminate any employee at any time, for any reason. Over-use or perceived abuse of the sick leave policy would certainly be used to fire an employee, regardless of whether the leave is paid or not.
D. Breaks, Benefits and Days Off
* There is no law requiring an employer to provide breaks, including lunch breaks, unless the employee is under the age of 18. Minors under 18 must receive a 30 minute break for every 5 hours of work. In addition, state law does not guarantee days off for holidays or any special holiday pay for private sector employees, except an unpaid religious day of rest each week for retail employees who give prior written notice to their employers.
* Maryland law does not require the award of benefits. Examples include vacation leave, sick leave, compensatory time, holidays and holiday pay, health and life insurance, bonuses, severance pay, etc. The right to claim benefits only arises through a prior agreement of the parties.

Yes. The company I work for and process the wages for does not pay sick pay. However, all employees are entitled to Statutory Sick Pay from the Government. It does not action until you have been off sick for over three days though. It does suck that in this day and age employers don't have to pay sick pay - I have a couple of employees who are off sick long term with broken bones and they are only entitled to SSP which is only a small amount of the wage they would have got if they were working. Hope this helps. D. X

Depends on the company policies.
Maryland doesn't mandate ANY sick days, except for those required under the FMLA, which is 12 weeks during a year for certain listed SERIOUS situations.
