It is important for self respect.I consider a person without self respect no better than a dead one.

Personal values, because without them you'd question what's good and bad, right and wrong, productive and counter-productive.
Family values, because even if your parents have died, you are still someone's daughter or son, possibly someone's sister or brother, possibly someone's cousin or parent or grandparent, nephew or niece, aunt or uncle, and that gives you a sense of belonging, warmth, and/or responsibility.
For those without family, friends become them. For those without personal values, there's a good chance they'll be taught by example.
