What aspects aside from looks are needed to succeed in modeling?

Because there is more to life than being beautiful. Being intelligent and educated is much more fun. Beauty fades, intelligence is forever.

I'm told on a daily basis that i'm attractive. I honestly dont care, im appreciative of the compliment, but im not gonna call an agent. its the person who tells me "wow, you're really smart" that gets my attention and makes me blush. You have no control over what you look like, you do have control over what you know and what you do with that information.

Not to mention, just because the general public thinks you're pretty, doesnt mean the fashion industry does. There are strict regulations about body image, weight, height, blemishes, and what not. if you go to an agent - be prepared to get knocked down a peg or two... imperfections you didnt know you had will be brought to your attention. And the ones you're aware of will be high lighted, poked, and marked with a sharpie.

A model should be something people can look up to. When I model, I see many pretty women all the time. Although they look amazing, some have beautiful personalities. I also see many women who aren't in modeling and yet they have beauty both in mentally and physically. The word "modeling" has been tarnished with a bad image of women who are super skinny, idiotic, selfish, * insert bad comment here*, and more. Some women feel that if they became a model, they will either be characterized as that by their peers or they might become the Negative version of the word "Model."

It's not for everyone, but they could if they wanted to - most people could. Unfortunately, when you say "model" most people think of fashion models. Most modeling - commercial modeling - happens in commercials, advertisements, textbooks, conventions, etc. And by normal-looking people. Did you really think those "real people" were doctors, farmers, cranberry harvesters, etc.? No, they're models and actors. And as someone earlier said, it is harder than it looks what with being on call, up at ungodly hours, out in some very unsavory weather, etc. In other words, it's a real job like any other. Though not as well known or glamorous as fashion or glamour modeling, it's a valid career option that works for some people - at least some of the time.

Discipline and talent. Just because you look good does not mean you have the ability to do the adequate poses at the adequate time. You also have to be on a diet at all times. If you do not need to lose weight you have to stay on a certain diet just to maintain. You have to be able to look good after a 16 hour flight and you have to look good when you have a death in the family and still have to do a gig. You have to be able to sacrifice a lot. No time for boyfriend or family or friends. No time to enjoy anything because time is money and most models have only 5-10 years to make all the money they can before their looks start to fade.

I don't think models are beautiful women. Not sure who gets to decide who can be a model, but no one ever asked me. Apparently you have to have the body of a 16 y/o boy and the face of a heroin addict. You have to be unnaturally skinny and mind-numbingly stupid. Most beautiful women are too smart to be models. I mean really, look at beautiful women in film and music that most would agree are beautiful, then compare them to models. See what I mean? How many singers or actresses can you name? How many models have a household name?

Looks are the key thing to becoming a model.
No one wants to stare at an over weight ugly person, do they?
I know I dont.

Self respect.
Outgoing Personality.
Polite.
Listens well.
Does what needs to be done.
Are all also some key things to be a model.
But modeling isnt for everyone.
People of their own opinions.
I think modeling would be fun, and numerous times have I had people tell me I am model material.
But its not my thing.

Because not everybody is intrested in modeling, even if they could be a top model or a sex simbol.

While maybe most people don't realize that modeling does have a lot of stress for the girls, not everybody cares about just succeding for her image, but want to succed in life via other personal achievements.

Usually they have to be at least 5'9" and very very thin. Not too many women these days fit those criteria (and thank God they don't, we don't need to look like clothes hangers.) I personally think that the models 10-15 years ago with a little more meat on their bones looked much better, think Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Niki Taylor, Cluadia Schiffer...

I can model but I don't becoz I feel there's more to me. Plus, I have other interests that I find enjoyable and more meaningful. Plus, a modelling career isn't that long-lasting.

Apart from looks (which includes a good height), I'd say confidence is the biggest plus. Other qualities are punctuality, being hard-working, being extremely patient, travelling, being professional, having the right attitude, and flexibility. A good portfolio helps.

Well, most woman are very beautiful, but are maybe not interessted in modeling like other woman. They maybe got a career already planned out they enjoy and think is for them. Some other companies would look for a model with brains, or un-usual looks. Some want tall models, and some want shorter ones. Hope this helps.
